Task 3: Planning and preparing a pitch (P3,M2 U21)
- LO2 (U21): Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief
Practice pitch and proposal
I completed a practice pitch in order to gain feedback from my peers about what I could improve on. This was done before my real pitch so that I could practice presenting as well as adding any information that I perviously missed.
My feedback:
- Wide target audience- lower it. I should identify a smaller target audience as it will be much easier to appeal to a smaller group.
- Add visualisation diagrams (front cover, double page spread) in order to give the client an idea of the visual lay out of my product. It is important that I include these diagrams as they provide information on the appearance of the product and how the finished product may look.
- Add information colour scheme and justify why. I should include this so that I can provide my client with more information on the visual appearance of my magazine concept; allowing for them to gain a better understanding of what the finished product will look like.
- Add information about double spread content e.g. Q&A. This should be included so that the client can gain an understanding into the type of content my magazine will include. I will provide information and a visualisation diagram of my double page spread to do this.
- Add information on how you will gather your content material
- Low magazine price - raise it. It is important that I respond to the feedback concerning the price of the product so that the newly chosen price reflects my target audience and corresponds with their disposable income.
- Create a script. It is important I do this so that I have a clear idea of what to say and include during my pitch. Creating a pitch should also mean that my presentation will flow more easily as I will know what to say and when to say it.
Amended Proposal
Improvements/ changes I made:
I made changes to my powerpoint in order to make my pitch as effective and informative as possible. I added sample materials to let the client know how I currently wish for my magazine to be presented
- I removed a lot of text from my powerpoint and added it to my script instead
- Put my key points in to bullet points then expanded on them in my script
- Added a mood board
- Added my colour scheme
- Added visualisation diagram of the front cover
- Included information on my double page spread (in script)
- Included detail of marking methods, price and funding
- Raised the magazine price
- Included detail of competition/ related magazines
- Justified each decision I made e.g. target audience (in my script)
- Added pictures
- Added a script

Potential client questions:
- What are your ideas for the double page spread article?
My double page spread will relate to my list of content ideas, I'm currently thinking of doing a Q&A with an rising artists including pictures.
- How do you think you'll manage to appeal to your target audience of 15-25 year olds?
I hope to appeal to all by my content ranging from young artists to older iconic ones. Even though this is a large age range that I am aiming to appeal to, I have chosen it after researching related magazines demographics and decided that I did not want to limit my age range too finely.
- How will you gather all the equipment necessary e.g. cameras?
I will be borrowing equipment from the school.
- How will you use your chosen (dark) colour scheme to grab attention?
I feel it will grab attention as it differs from the 'normal' magazine convention. Even though my chosen colours are dark they are still bold, complimentary and grabbing.
- Will you be doing the jobs of all you personnel?
I will be aiming to do all of these jobs myself bar the modelling. I will research each of these jobs before I do them as to achieve the best result possible (e.g. read/ watch content about photoshop).
- How will you gather content for your magazine?
I will gather content, e.g. interviews, through people I know and other contacts. I am confident in using my own contacts as they relate to the magazine aim/purpose and chosen demographic.
- Will you advertise your magazine locally and how will you do this?
I will spread awareness of the magazine locally by creating posters and getting sponsors in the area. I may also decide to advertise in local newspapers and concert venues.
