Task 7: Create production materials (P4, M3)

Double page spread article

  • Which famous musicians do you admire and why?
Ever since I can remember I've been obsessed with David Bowie. I grew up in awe of his confidence and his ability to break down the stigma surrounding gender, sexuality as well as many other controversial areas. From Bowie I learnt so much about myself, I learnt to accept myself for the way I am and not to change that for anyone. The impact he's had on the current music scene is undeniable, I will never fail to be astonished at the sheer amount he did during his life time and how it still incredibly relevant in todays culture.

  • What song has the most meaning to you and why?
‘Imagine’ by John Lennon has always given be faith in myself. I know it sounds cliche but I honestly do ‘imagine’ my future as a successful artist every time I hear it. I think its amazing that he managed deliver such a political message with such a smooth melody. I fully agree with the message of the song that everyone should put there differences aside and just get along!

  • Who/ what got you into music?
Growing up life was tough, I used music as an outlet. Creating music let me express myself and the emotions I felt more more effectively than any form of words could. I found it beautiful that I could transform the way I felt into a tune. I first started creating music when I started secondary school, before then I hadn't had access to equipment and instruments. I soon became obsessed with the sounds I, single handedly, could create through a simple pluck of a string or tap of a key. I dedicated all my free time at school to learning these instruments, and I guess that dedication has paid off!

  • What music did you listen to growing up?
Growing up I listened to tunes from my parents’ generation. ‘Fleetwood Mac’, ‘Led Zeppelin’ and ‘Queen’ were constantly playing in our house. I was surrounded by music and I loved it.
My retro taste in music drew me apart from the rest of my generation, my definition of ‘good music’ was different from my peers. I consider myself so lucky for Growing up in a household where music was so prominent, is the reason I'm here today!

  • Where do you draw inspiration from?
Generally I take inspiration from personal experiences. Throughout my teenage years I’ve experienced some real tough times, especially with my mental health. I was diagnosed with depression in my early teenage years, the stigma around male mental health is dreadful so I struggled in getting the support and help I need.
Lots of my music is based around my mental health experiences. Depression was and is so prominent in my life, its hard not to create music from it. I believe the most meaningful music comes from personal experiences. I hope by sharing my story I can increase awareness of mental health issues, and break down the taboos about it.

  • Whats it like being a upcoming artist in North London?
Honestly its difficult. I really struggle to get work as most venues are cautious about someone so young and out of the spotlight. The reputation and history of North London artists is insane, ‘The Kinks’, originally from Muswell Hill, set the bar remarkably high for the future generations of musicians. North London has such a competitive music scene and rich history so its really not easy, but I know I have the ambition and commitment to make it as a successful musician!

Photographs

I did not use this photo as the lighting was too dark and the image was not clear.

Initially I considered this photo for my magazine double page, however I decided against it as the model's face was not fully visible. As well as this the image was also quite dark and hard to focus on.

I did not use this image as the background drew attention away from my model.

This was one of the photos considered for my double page spread. I ended up not choosing to include it as the bright background did not fit the genre of the magazine. I also felt that the image was too busy and overwhelming

I did not chose to use this photo in my magazine as I thought it did not fit the genre of the magazine due to the bright background. As well as this, I felt the background was too busy, drawing attention away from my model.

Despite initially considering this image for my double page spread, I ended up not choosing to use it. This is because I felt there were too many colours and potential distractions in the background. The colours in the image also did not fit my colour scheme .

This is my chosen image for the double page spread of my magazine. I have chose this image as it would fit the codes and conventions of a magazine double page spread. An example of it fitting the conventions is that the image provides lots of space for me to insert text and title. I have also chosen this image due to the positioning of the model. This is because off middle positioning allows for the fold within the magazine. This was also my chosen image as it fits my chosen colour scheme. I believe the image represents my magazine focus due to  This is as it including both an iconic North London location as well as rising talent within it.

This was the chosen image for the front cover of the magazine. I chose this image as it reflects the magazine content. This is as it includes both an iconic North London location as well as rising talent. I chose this image as it also related to my chosen colour scheme. My model within the photo is positioned in a way which would fit to the codes and conventions of a magazine front cover. Despite obvious visual issues such as brightness in the back I feel this is still the best photo to use for my magazine front cover. Issues such as brightness can be fixed with photoshop editing.
