Feedback from my pitch
- Change magazine name
Unknowingly, I named my magazine the same as a 80s American boyband. Doing this created confusion due to the connotations of the name. I found this feedback constructive as I was previously unaware of the shared name. My initial thinking was that I would be able to keep the name of 'New Kids On The Block' as my target demographic wouldn't be familiar with the band. However the client pointed out that if my magazine were to expand on its target audience, the name would become an issue. In order to respond this constructive feedback I will change the name of my magazine. After the pitch my magazine has been renamed to 'UNDERGROUND'. I have chosen to rename it to this as I feel this newly chosen name reflects the genre and content of my magazine. The word 'Underground' has connotations to the unknown, I feel this is fitting to my magazine as my product aims to focus on undiscovered young talent.
- Change colour scheme - too dark, relate it to the target audience
Within the feedback provided, the client mentioned that the choice black and white was a 'Bold move' which suggested to me he was slightly uneasy about it. He then went on to comment that the 'accent colours' dark green and red would be too dark. I will take this feedback on board when creating my final product as I want my product to attract attention; something which it will struggle to do with such a dark colour scheme. However, despite the feedback provided I will still keep my colour scheme relatively dark in order to portray the genre of the product. My colour scheme will be altered to be lighter and brighter but will still consist of greens and blues. The newly chosen colours will be much more eye-catching in comparison to the original colour scheme. I feel it is important to do this as I want my magazine to reflect the genre of music it focuses on.
- Competitors, Kerrang
The client commented on the fact that one of the main competitors to the magazine was Kerrang magazine. He commented that the genre of Kerrang was very different to the one selected for my own magazine. We agreed that, despite some crossover, the fact that there were not a large amount of other competitors would give my magazine a USP.
- Target audience
I was questioned on the choice of a majorly male target audience. This had come across during my presentation and in my choice of avatar on the powerpoint. The client also linked this to the dark colour scheme which she though gave a 'masculine feel'.
- Other competitors
The client suggested that I had left out Time Out and The Big Issue as potential competitors. I pointed out that they weren't exclusively music magazines but according to the client Time Out is the biggest gig guide. She also suggested that I research these magazine, particularly the interview sections. It was also drawn to my attention that both of these magazines had a very strong London feel to them.
