Task 2: Create a proposal and pitch for a media product (P1,P2,M1,U3&21)
- LO1:Be able to create a proposal with sample material for an original media product to client brief
- LO2: Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief
Concept
I chose this as the title of my magazine as I believe it represents the content inside. It tells the reader what to expect inside, creating a sense of interest and curiosity for them. I have incorporated the words 'New' and 'Kids' as they do relate to the client brief. The word 'Kids' reflects the informal nature of the magazine whereas the word 'New' relates to the focus on rising vibrant talent. The word 'Block' has connotations which relate to the target audience of teenagers and the young hip North London scene they live in.
Purpose and objective
The concept of my magazine is that it will focus on young up and coming artists. The magazine will almost completely concentrate on the younger generation of musicians rather than big industry names. The rising artists/ bands that I will include in the content will be aged 16-25 and representing the 'future of music'. The main genre will be alternative music, this'll cover indie rock, indie pop, pop punk, alt rock etc. My target audience would range from those aged 16-30. I chose this age range as it is whom the alternative music genre/ culture is most popular with. I would also include a small percentage of the content on world famous artists and how they got to where they are now.
The overall aim of this magazine is to educate and involve people in their local music scene by showcasing the talent in the area. This will be done by concentrating a large percentage of content on the younger generation of musicians, rather than big industry names. The rising artists and bands that will be included in the content will be aged 16 to 25 and representing the 'future of the music industry'.
My double page spread will be a Q&A interview with a young North London artist, reflecting the concept of rising artists.

Form
A4 music magazine printed on recycled paper, as to reduce environmental impact.
Genre
The bracket of music that will be focused on is the alternative scene. This category will branch out and cover indie rock, indie pop and alternative rock. I have chosen this genre as it covers multiple, similar, sub-genres which are all applicable to the North London music scene. As well as all this, there is currently a gap the market; with no magazines focusing sheerly on the North London alternative music scene.

Content
Whilst my magazines key focus is the rising generation of musicians, I am also going to be including content on globally successful artists who have influenced the North London music scene. I have decided to include popular artists in my content as familiar names will increase interest rates and appeal to fans.
My first edition will have a double page of a Q&A interview with an up and coming artist. This will include quick fire questions, allowing the reader to get to know the artist on a more personal level. This is in line with the client brief as it reflects the vibrant new talent in the area. As my target audience are those 17 to 24, this quick fire questioning will suit their reading habits. I will include photos of the artist as well as information about the music and any upcoming gigs they have.

‘New kids on the block’ - Wishfulwaves

Target audience
My target audience is males aged 17 to 24, I have chosen this demographic after researching the audience of magazines with a similar focus. 'Kerrang' magazine, a weekly UK based music magazine, has an majority male audience (60%) and a median age of 19. It would be aimed at social classes NRS C2, D and E. I have decided upon these social classes as they correlate to my target age range, e.g. most 19 year olds will be in NRS class E or D if they are students.
Secondary audience
My Secondary audience will be those aged 35-40, with an interest in their local alternative music scene. The age range 35-40 has been chosen as the secondary audience as this is another potential audience of those interested in the rock genre. This age range also relates to those who grew up when the indie rock music scene first originated. As well as this, due to the current trend/ come back of vinyls, rock music is once again becoming relevant again with the older generation of those 35-40.

Marketing
Marketing will be done through the form of distribution of leaflets and pamphlets along with small posters. These will be marketed in areas where my target audience will be present, such as outside concerts and record shops. The magazine will also be marketed online, in accordance with the brief. This will be done through a specially developed magazine website. The website will be advertised on social media such as Snapchat and Instagram through paid sponsorship, however once the magazine grows and people become aware of it, below the line advertising will be used. As well as a website, a YouTube channel will also be set up with content relating to the magazine, e.g. interviews with artists. Using all these platforms to market the magazine creates a sense of convergence.
I have decided on these marketing and distribution methods as they are the most cost effective for an up and coming magazine with a low budget. These methods will also be the most effective in creating a wide potential audience for my product. I believe these methods of marketing and distribution are in line with the client brief. This is because they are North London based and both print and online.
I have decided to use social media such as Snapchat and Instagram as theses are most commonly used by my target audience of 17 to 24 year olds.

Distribution
Awareness will be spread through social media platforms, I will use Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram as these platforms which correlate with my target audience and their technology habits. My magazine will be distributed throughout newsagents in North London for the price of £1.50. I have chosen this price as it relates to my chosen demographic, social classes NRS C2, D and E. The magazine will also be distributed online in line with the client brief, this also fit my target audience of teenagers. Readers will be notified of new content on the magazine website through email and shares through social media e.g. Snapchat and Instagram. As well as the single issue price of the magazine, annual subscription will also be on offer, with subscribers will receive a physical copy of the magazine as well as a unique login to the website with exclusive members benefits. I will offer a subscription because it will establish a dedicated fanbase. By offering a subscription at a discount price, I will gain a captive audience so that my magazine can develop and grow.
SWOT analysis
Opportunities
In the future, I hope my magazine will educate and appeal to those who are not involved in the alternative music culture, increasing awareness of scene. I may also want to alter the content so that it can appeal to a larger target audience.
Threats
Threats to my magazine include the music magazines which are already greatly successful e.g. Rolling Stone, NME. This is because they may draw attention away from the more niche focus my magazine concentrates on.
I do not recognise these magazines as a threat because my magazine differs from these as it will focus on young talent rather than the already known, as well as this, it concentrates on a specific area of London.
Competition
Whilst there are no music magazines sheerly focusing on the North London scene, there are magazines which concentrate on the alternative music scene in the UK. These include ‘RockSound’ and ‘Kerrang’ magazine which have the same target age range as my magazine does. Principally 17 to 24 year olds. My magazine differs from these as it will focus on young talent rather than the already known.Kerrang magazine is sold at £3.00 per issue however this price goes down to £2.00 with a 12 month subscription. The magazine comes out monthly and is available on a range of platforms include Youtube, Twitter and Facebook.
RockSound magazine cost £3.99 per issue and costs £37.99 for an annual subscription. RockSound has similar content to Kerrang magazine but is a new magazine on the market, focusing on newer music.Other publications such Q and MOJO magazine, also focus on the indie rock genre along with classic rock.
