task 9: Meeting the client brief (M3, M4, D1)

My front cover

Within the front cover of the magazine I have used multiple post-production techniques in order to create meaning and to meet the client brief. My magazine front cover has been created in line with the provided brief. One way this has been done is with the use of text. The bold text I have used makes the magazine's purpose and aim apparent. It clearly focuses on the North London music scene, especially areas such as Camden (mentioned on the cover). This use of font creates meaning as it reflects the focus of the magazine. This meets the client brief as my use of text and front portrays the content of the magazine, North London. My use of the masthead font 'Punk Attitude' also links into the genre of music the product is based on. The cracked and disordered style of the font creates an atmosphere which mirrors the grunge/rock genre of the magazine.

The magazine's appearance makes it explicit that it focuses on the new, evolving music scene due to the main image of a teenager and the skyline of 'RISING TALENT'. By focusing on young talent, my magazine appeals to my target audience of teenagers. I believe my use of the skyline corresponds to the client brief. This is because it explicitly says the focus of the product. By placing this at the top of the magazine it'll be one of the first things the reader sees when looking at the product.

The main image on the magazine front cover has been edited in order to create meaning and to meet the client brief. I have done this through the use of increasing the boldness, brightness and sharpness of the photo. The image has been edited in a way which reflects the music genre of rock/ grunge. The use of increasing the boldness and sharpness of the image makes it more eye-catching. I believe the use of editing meets the client brief as it aims to amplify the magazine's focus on rising talent. Editing my image allowed the product to meet the aspect of the brief as increasing the brightness made the cover more striking and drew the readers focus onto the model.

Other post-production techniques used in my front cover included adding in a barcode, price, issue number and date. I included these details in order to meet the client brief of creating a product which fits the codes and conventions of a traditional magazine. I included these clearly on the cover as to allow the reader to see the important information about the product.

Another post-production technique used was adding cover lines. I chose to include cover lines which would create meaning in the product. I did this by adding cover lines which reflected the content of the magazine e.g. Camden Town venues. The use of cover lines also meets the client brief as they focus on the North London requirement of the product as well as rising talent. The coverlids create meaning as they entice the reader into wanting to read the
magazine as they create curiosity.

Double page

Within the double page spread of the magazine I have used multiple post-production techniques in order to create manning and to meet the client brief. One way this has been done is through the use of pull quotes. Within the double page pull quotes have been used three times, this has been done for numbers reasons. One of these reasons was to create interest for the reader, inciting them to want to read more. I chose quotes which reflected the article but left yet the reader wanting to know more. The use of pull quotes also meets the client brief as the quotes chosen are inline with the North London focus on rising talent, as the brief required. Another reason as to the use of pull quotes was to make the product visually pleasing. The quotes have been placed in areas which are eye-catching, creating interest in the main article.

The use of text within the double page spread is another post-production technique used. The use of white text for the main body of the article was done in opposition to the back text of the article heading. This has been done in order to make the product more visually pleasing to the reader. The use of contrasting text shades also reflects the hardcore music genre in which the product focuses on. This use of text has also been used in order to meet the client brief. This has been done as the use of bold shades such as white and black reflects the vibrant music scene developing.

Within the post-production process the image used in my double page spread has been edited. The brightness of the image was lowered, shadow raised and sharpness increase. These post-production techniques were used in order to divide the readers attention between the model and the background. Doing this meets the client brief as it reflects the requirements of the North London focus as well as rising talent, the model. The use of editing also creates meaning as it makes both the background and model more striking. This means interest in the product will increase.

The use of font within the double page spread is another post production technique used to create meaning and meet the client brief. The chosen font of the article title was Lemon/milk. This font sans serif was chosen as it creates meaning through reflecting the focus on rising talent. The futuristic, bold style of the font mirrors the magazines focus on rising talent. The font used for the article was Futura. I used this font as it was clear and concise, meaning it was would be easier for the reader to read.
